When firefighters got to the house, smoke and fire was showing from the roof toward the back of the home, firefighters said.
Investigators determined the fire likely started in the attic as a result of an electrical issue with a thermostat for an attic fan.
The person living at the house was able to make it out safely after being alerted to the fire by a neighbor.
Fire crews estimated damage to the house and its contents at $40,000.
