Joy Bossmann has been a lifelong subscriber since 1945.

Joy Bossmann, like many of our other lifelong subscribers, used her Dayton Daily News subscription to stay up-to-date on events as historical as World War II.

Bossmann just celebrated her 94th birthday at her Beavercreek home with friends and family— and two cakes, she added. Since 1945, the Dayton Daily News has been an essential part of her everyday. With the upcoming 2020 presidential election season, Bossmann said these are the times when free press and journalism are more important than ever.

“Some believe my reading the DDN takes way too much of my time, but I enjoy every minute! It speaks to my life!”

Moving to Dayton from Virginia for a career and educational opportunity at Wright Field, it wasn’t long before Bossmann put herself to work at the Dayton Steel Factory during WW II and became the aid to the chief engineer.

“War changes everyhing. That’s why my life is dedicated to peace. … Early on, of special interest to me when reading the DDN was reading about local businesses such NCR, job shops, Wright Field and Patterson Field. I had a particular interest in articles about War and Peace since WWII had just ended. When our three daughters were born, the DDN provided us important information about school activities and church activities that was extremely helpful.”
