From the chat room of the National Weather Service in Wilmington: “Shortly after 5 p.m., we received several reports of small funnel clouds in Preble County.

“These types of funnel clouds can develop suddenly from showers and thunderstorms, and are usually very thin, with a needle or rope like appearance. These types of funnel clouds rarely reach the ground, and are unlikely to cause significant damage if they do.”

There have been no reports of damage.

Several callers to this newsroom report hearing the sirens. At least one person who lives close to Barron Street said she saw a funnel cloud.

We will update this developing report as we learn more.
