Gas leak repaired, state Route 235 reopens

UPDATE @ 9:52 p.m.: The gas leak in front of he Dayview Care Center has been repaired and state Route 235 has been reopened.

A Vectren spokeswoman tells us a lawnmower hit a meter, causing the leak. Vectren crews made the repair in less than two hours, she said.

No one was evacuated from Dayview Day Care, the spokeswoman said.

FIRST REPORT

A gas leak has shut a section of state Route 235 in front of the Dayview Care Center, in the 1800 block.

A meter was struck and that caused the leak, according to Springfield police dispatch. There are no reports of injury or evacuation of the facility.

Vectren has sent a crew to the scene.

An official with Dayview had no comment about the incident.
