Girl facing charges for fight at Stivers school in Dayton, police say

Dayton police are pursuing charges against a girl said to have been involved in a fight at Stivers School for the Arts.

The girl, whose age was not immediately known, was issued a summons to appear in juvenile court, according to a Dayton police spokeswoman.

Police responded to the fight Tuesday morning.  It was recorded on cell phone video.

“One of our students has a medical emergency,” a staff member told 9-1-1 dispatchers. “This particular student was beat up.”

A school employee identified the injured student in the 9-1-1 call as a 14-year-old girl. The girl was treated and released from Dayton Children’s Hospital, hospital officials said.

In the video, you see several students beating another student as they are on the ground. The video continues and shows several others getting involved in the fight, which was reported around 10:30 a.m.

After the fight, a group of students carry the student up the stairs at the school.

District officials declined to release any specifics about the fight, but said they are investigating.

“DPS takes matters of student and staff safety seriously,” said Dayton Public Schools Superintendent Elizabeth Lolli.
