Unknown green liquid leaks from Moraine dumpster, raises concern

People in the area say they have to drive through it, and like us, they don’t know what it is.

It comes from a dumpster used by Bimac Precision Castings, 3034 Dryden Road.

“It’s become a problem,” said Dino Smith of K&G Tool and Die. “We see that weekly, for sure. The employees come and they let me know, you know, ‘it’s out there again, what can we do about this?’ They’re tired of driving through it. They’re tired of seeing it.”

An iWitness7 viewer sent video of a worker emptying something into the dumpster.

Smith said the substance goes in as a powder and comes out as a green puddle.

“They’re there dumping. I leave about 5:15, 5:30 in the evening and it’s out there. They’re dumping. And they’re continuing to dump,” he said.

Smith said his company and others nearby have reached out to Bimac.

The company president refused an interview Wednesday afternoon, saying he’s not going to respond to a picture.

He said without testing the substance and sending it off to a laboratory, he can’t say for sure what it is, but he said all the substances used in Bimac’s plant are clean and accepted by the dump. He said they also undergo quarterly evaluations by the EPA.

Smith said he is still worried and he just wants the substance to stop leaking out of the dumpster.

“We don’t need this stuff running off into our sewers, our water, anything else like that around here. It’s just a problem that needs to be taken care of,” Smith said.

The Ohio EPA said if anyone sees something concerning, to call a 24-hour spill hotline 1-800-282-9378 to have someone check it out. The EPA also said local police could be called as well.
