Spaying and neutering are vital in preventing pet overpopulation, especially in cats, the Humane Society said in a release. A female cat can have up to four litters of kittens a year, many of which are left to fend for themselves or end up in animal shelters.Neutering male cats can greatly reduce their chances of injuries from fighting and can curb behaviors like spraying.
The Humane Society of Greene County also offers reduced cost spray/neuter programs for both cats and dogs for low to medium level income families. In 2019, the Humane Society spayed or neutered 1,846 cats and dogs through both programs.
The spay/neuter clinics are held the second Saturday of each month, but interested people should register in advance. For more information, contact the Humane Society at 937-376-3001 or visit their website at www.humanesocietygreenecounty.com
