The Hara Arena property may now be available for light industrial uses, according to a zoning change Trotwood City Council approved this week, the Trotwood Community Improvement Corporation’s executive director said Wednesday.

The property will change from recreational to a PUD (planed unit development) use under the new zoning.

The new owner, Ohio-based Tax Redevelopment LLC, now will be able to utilize the change in zoning to secure Small Business Administration disaster financing to support cleaning up damage from the Memorial Day tornado, TCIC Executive Director Chad Downing told News Center 7 and whio.com.

The owner also will be able to apply for a JobsOhio environmental grant and to market the property under the rezoning.

Downing said TCIC, an organization that works to strengthen Trotwood’s economy, hopes to work with the owner to create a site that is attractive to businesses.

The Hara site is more than 120 acres and includes a building that covers an estimated 650,000 square feet. Hara closed in 2016, ending 50 years as a performance and event site.
