Dent Schoolhouse in Cincinnati again ranks among the top haunted attractions in the nation, according to an industry group.
Dent Schoolhouse was the only Ohio venue to make HauntWorld's 2013 list of the top 13 professional haunted attractions. It ranked 11th.
HauntWorld selected the top attractions based on the themes of the scare houses, the professionalism of the special effects and actors and the quality of the details.
And of course, attractions were judged based on how scary they are.
"Haunted house owners are going over the top -- bigger, better and scarier than ever because they're no longer competing with only other haunts in their area, but with haunted houses across the country," said Larry Kirchner, owner of HauntWorld in a prepared statement.
Dent Schoolhouse is not for the faint of heart.
Visitors walk through an actual schoolhouse that was built in 1894, where they encounter ghouls and gore of all types.
There are violent mental patients with chains and missing limbs. There are masked psychopaths with chainsaws. There are animatronic skeletons that pop up unexpectedly.
And then there is Charlie, a deformed and evil janitor who wields a bloody wrench.
School is in session Thursday through Sunday through the end of October.
