Homegrown Heroes: 20 new firefighters to join Dayton department

The Dayton Fire Department on Friday will welcome 20 new firefighters who were part of the latest recruiting class.

Fire department leaders and the new firefighters will take part in a graduation event at 10 a.m. Friday in City Hall.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the event is closed to the public but will be shown live at DaytonOhio.gov/govtv

Graduates completed a six-month academy and obtained State of Ohio certification as a firefighter, EMT and fire safety inspector, according to a press release from the city. They will begin their assignments at fire stations across Dayton on Monday.

They were the first group of Homegrown Heroes, a city of Dayton internal recruiting program that encourages city employees to pursue a career in public safety services.
