UPDATE @ 6:40 p.m.:

A father and son truck driving team hauling electronics were traveling west on Interstate 70, just east of Eaton, when the one who was driving took a drink of pop and started to choke and lost control, Sgt. Dallas Root of the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Dayton Post said.

The truck landed on its side in the median in the crash that happened shortly before 4 p.m. at mile marker 12 of I-70, between state Route 503 and U.S. 127.

The two men were taken to Reid Health Hospital in Richmond, Indiana, with minor injuries, Root said.

The drivers were headed back towards Missouri at the time of the crash, the sergeant said.

Although the truck crashed into the wide median, troopers shut down the left lane of eastbound I-70 so a broom truck from the Ohio Department of Transportation could clear debris.

“There was a significant amount of gravel and dirt that was pushed into the roadway,” Root said.

Traffic also was delayed because many motorists were slowing to look at the crash, some with cellphones hanging out the window to take photos and videos.

The driver will be cited for failing to maintain reasonable control, he said.
