SPRINGBORO — Zandra Thomas calls Frost Cupcake Bar a “design-your-own-dessert” shop.

Thomas and Aly Moss, both of Lebanon, are scheduled to open their new business venture at 153 S. Main St. in Springboro on Saturday, Oct. 22. The two also own a dance studio in Lebanon.

Thomas said she and Moss are fans of the Food Network show “Cupcake Wars,” in which contestants are pitted against one another and challenged to come up with a unique cupcake using a special theme or ingredient. The business partners traveled widely as part of their dance choreography duties, and noticed the popularity of cupcake shops elsewhere.

Customers can design their own cupcake for $3.50 by choosing the type of cake — examples include chocolate, blueberry-lemon and pumpkin spice — then choose from among eight frostings and multiple toppings. Or they can choose from an already-made cupcake ($3) from the shop’s display case. The shop seats about 15 people and offers free wi-fi. Coffee, tea, milk and water will be available, Thomas said.

Frost Cupcake Bar can accommodate birthday parties, bridal showers, baby showers, bachelorette parties, scrapbooking parties and other gatherings, Thomas said.

The cupcake shop’s owners are gearing up for a ribbon-cutting at 11 a.m. on Oct. 22, the shop’s first day of business, and will be open again the following day at 11 a.m. on Oct. 23 “until we’re sold out,” Thomas said. Regular hours going forward will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
