The West Carrollton City School District Board of Education will consider a resolution tonight to place a levy on the ballot in March.
The board is scheduled tonight to review a proposal for a 5.5-mill continuous levy on the March ballot. If approved, the levy would cost the owner of a home valued at $100,000 about $192 a year, West Carrollton Superintendent Rusty Clifford said.
The levy is being sought to fund operations, which consume about 18.6 percent of the district’s general fund, Clifford said. The state average for operations spending is 19.1 percent, said Clifford.
District officials said a vote to place the levy on the ballot is not expected until December. The deadline to submit issues to have them appear on the March ballot is Dec. 16, according to the Montgomery County Board of Elections.

Homefull hosting homeless week events
Homefull will host its annual Sleep Out event Thursday night at First Baptist Church, 111 W. Monument Ave. The event starts at 10 p.m. and is part of National Hunger & Homeless Awareness Week. Participants should dress for the weather and bring their own chairs and blankets.

School’s booster club holding food drive
The Thurgood Marshall STEM High School Boys Basketball Booster Club is collecting canned goods and dry goods this week to benefit Wesley Community Center. The Community Development Corporation Resource Consortium is facilitating the food drive.
Collection boxes are located at the school, 4447 Hoover Ave., in the front hallway, and donations will be accepted during regular school hours. The food drive will run through Saturday.

High school students eligible for scholarship
High school students who live in Montgomery County or attend the Miami Valley Career Technology Center are eligible to apply for a “You Can Count On Me” scholarship. Greg McAfee, owner of McAfee Heating and Air Conditioning, started the scholarship program, which is intended to recognize students not just for good grades, but also for their contributions and commitment to family and community.
The scholarship program will award $2,500 to 10 high school seniors in the Miami Valley set to graduate in the 2016 academic year. Funds can be used for two or four-year colleges, trade or technical schools, or programs resulting in the award of a professional licensure issued by the state.
Applicants must submit three letters of recommendation and have a grade point average of 2.5 or greater. Additional consideration will be given to applicants with significant financial need.
Scholarship applications will be accepted, online only, through Dec. 31.
