Navistar to add 300 jobs in Springfield with second GM deal

Navistar will add 300 jobs in Springfield in a new partnership with GM to build cutaway vans for commercial customers.

This is the second major agreement between the two manufacturers in the past several months. In September the companies announced a separate deal in which the Springfield plant will work with GM to build medium duty-trucks beginning in 2018. That deal was also expected to add another 300 jobs to Springfield.

Local economic development leaders said the newest announcement this morning cements Navistar’s presence in Springfield and will be a major boost to the region’s economy.

The Springfield plant employs about 1,500 workers currently.
