Like the theme song of a certain ’80s sitcom, the owners of the newly-opened Paddock want their facility to be a place “where everybody knows your name and they’re always glad you came.”
The Paddock, located at 4 S. Broadway in downtown Lebanon, aims to be a casual, hang-out spot for those venturing downtown.
“We’re not quite a bar, not quite a restaurant, we’re just a place to have good time,” said Dina Davis, who co-owns the Paddock with Myron Hoffman.
The Paddock offers a stock of more than 50 varieties of beer and a wide expanse of wine selections, for consumption both on premise or to take out. Many of their beers are small brewery selections and can be mixed and matched in carry outs. The Paddock also offers deli style sandwiches and other finger foods and an assortment of beer and wine related gifts.
Davis was the manager of Doc’s Place in Lebanon for seven years and said it is a dream come true to be able to operate her own tavern. She looked for more than a year before she found a setting that felt right to her, she said.
“I had a degree in education but I fell in love with being able to serve people,” Davis said. “I loved being able to interact with people. I have a good time with all our customers and even with our distributors.
The tavern opened last week and plans to begin serving food at the end of this week.
“We’re starting slow with sandwiches, salads and soups,” Davis said. “We’re not diving into the deep end on anything.”
The Paddock’s name comes from Davis’s native Kentucky roots.
“A Paddock is where horses corral or gather and eat,” Davis said. “This is how I envisioned this place. A friendly tavern where you could come and eat lunch or have a beer after work.”
Davis said her favorite part of owning the Paddock is the chance to succeed on her own merits.
“When you’re in charge, you’re in a position to be a success or a failure.” Davis said. “Here I get to do something I love doing everyday and I’m so thankful for that.”
Davis said among beers she prefers lagers “because of their smoothness and their ability to be paired with everything.”
“But everyone has different tastes and we have the selection to match it,” Davis said. “Variety is part of what makes this job so great.”
