Officer fired after investigation

CLEARCREEK TOWNSHIP, Warren County, Ohio -- Former Police Sgt. Steve Reynolds has been fired by the department. The Middletown Journal says an internal investigation determined that he took money from a newly-elected township trustee to repair damages to a truck.

The probe reveals that truck belonged to another officer's relative. The investigation also revealed that Reynolds did not tell the police chief about his actions. It also says he wanted to show "he would give special consideration" to Trustee-elect Cathy Anspach.

Her son Tyler was accused of damaging a sun visor in a truck which belonged to a nephew of Officer Kevin Barton.

Township trustees were told Wednesday of the termination. The 14-year-police veteran was fired April 20. He was accused of accepting between $30 and $35 from Anspach the day after her election on November 3, 2009.
