The project to replace the Third Street bridge in Dayton is scheduled to begin with a ground-breaking ceremony today at 2 p.m., kicking off two years and $16 million in construction.

The bridge is scheduled to be completely closed on Jan. 1, and reopen Oct. 2021.

Funding for the project came from local, state and federal agencies, according to a release from Montgomery County Engineer Paul Gruner.

The event will include speeches from:

  • Debbie Lieberman, President, Montgomery County Commission
  • Nan Whaley, Mayor, City of Dayton
