The Montgomery County Jail received some special visitors Tuesday morning: two dogs from the Miami Valley Pet Therapy Association.

In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office shared photos of staff and inmates with the dogs, saying “Both MCSO staff and inmates appreciate the opportunity to spend time with the dogs, through this program designed to support emotional wellness.”

The dogs are named Mila and Shelby.

On its own Facebook page, the MVPTA said, “MVPTA is proud to partner with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s office on this important project.”

MVPTA is a Troy-based non-profit that trains “pet therapy teams” of an owner and pet to provide therapy services throughout the Miami Valley area.

According to the organization’s website, it regularly serves several area hospitals including Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton Children’s Hospital, and Soin Medical Center, as well as a diverse collection of other groups, including the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the University of Dayton, assisted living facilities, businesses, schools and even funeral services and crisis response by request.
