Police: Man shoots, kills neighbor's dog

Preble County Sheriff deputies said a woman's neighbor shot and killed her dog.

Shelley Nash said it all started when she went on vacation and had someone watching her two dogs.

The dog sitter let the dogs out in the back yard and another neighbor's dog came over.  All the dogs got into a fight and the neighbor's dog was injured.

Nash said the neighbor then came over and told the dog sitter that he would kill the dogs and her.

Then, Nash said after she got back from vacation she let the dogs out in the back yard one day and her 9-year-old red heeler named Rascal never came back.

She asked her neighbor about it and he said he killed the dog.

Nash says, "He was head first in the barrel like a piece of trash.  When I got him out, I could see that he had been backshot, so I knew he suffered."

The neighbor had shot the dog twice and then put him in a trash can, deputies said. The neighbor told deputies that he was just defending himself and that Rascal was an aggressive dog.

Deputies are looking into where the dog was shot, if it was on the neighbor's property, he was within his legal rights.

Nash thinks Rascal was killed on her property because there was a pool of blood in her driveway.
