Pot Belly Pigs group, other organizations feed local families

MIDDLETOWN — One by one they piled out of a Middletown Transit System bus, some carrying boxes of food and bags of milk and eggs.

When Roberta Riley opened her front door, she was shocked to see 16 members of the Pot Belly Pigs — a Middletown motorcycle club — standing on her front porch.

The group delivered Riley a ready-to-heat Thanksgiving meal, a gallon of milk, a cartoon of eggs, canned goods and food for her dog. It was one of the 13 stops the group made Wednesday afternoon at the homes of local senior citizens.

For Riley, the meal meant her family — daughter, Natalie Jones and her two sons, Cory and Christopher — could enjoy a home-cooked Thanksgiving meal. Riley, 77, said she hasn’t cooked lately because of her failing health.

“This just means so much,” Riley said. “It’s wonderful what these people are doing.”

It was the third annual Thanksgiving meal delivery for the motorcycle organization. Numerous Middletown organizations — Pot Belly Pigs, Orioles Nest No. 193, Middletown Transit System, Middletown City Schools bus drivers, Middletown Senior Citizens Center, Elderly Services, Margaret Martin and Holy Trinity Chapel — made contributions, Turner said.

The Pot Belly Pigs, made up of 138 members, donated about $600, Turner said. The organization performs a lot of community service, she said.

“This is what we do,” she said.

Another member, Rex Harp added: “You got to give.”
