Pickup driver says ‘coughing fit’ precedes crash into house in Union

UPDATE @ 5:35 p.m.

A pickup truck driver who crashed into the front of a house this evening told the homeowner he suffered a “coughing fit” that caused him to lose control.

The red 2004 Ford Ranger crashed through brick and cinder block on the side of the home’s attached garage.

The homeowner said he just bought the house this summer.

The truck driver said he was a Vietnam veteran and would get himself checked out at the VA to make sure he is OK.

Union police said the driver would be cited for failure to control.

FIRST REPORT

Crews were called this evening to a report of a pickup truck that went into the front of a house.

The incident was reported shortly before 5 p.m. in the 3300 block of Phillipsburg Union Road in Union.

According to initial reports, the house sustained heavy damage.

It was not clear whether there were any injuries.
