Report: Stabbing victim tried saving woman from assault

A 27-year-old man was stabbed after he said he tried to save a woman being beaten by another man Wednesday, according to a Dayton police report.

Officers responded to the Good Samaritan Hospital emergency room around 9 p.m., where the victim was taken by a friend, the report read.

According to the report, the victim was at an apartment in the 1900 block of Elsmere Drive with a friend, when he saw neighbors fighting on the stairway.

The victim told police he saw a man punch a woman in the face and that was when he tried to intervene to protect the woman.

“As (the victim) stepped toward the male, the male reached out and struck him in the upper chest area,” according to a Dayton police report.

The victim said he ran into the apartment to get away and that was when he noticed he was stabbed.

Police have not identified the attacker, the report said.

The victim’s condition was not immediately known.
