Vehicle goes airborne, strikes pole, downs wires near Yellow Springs, driver appeared uninjured

A man was trapped in his vehicle after it went airborne and struck a power pole, bringing live wires down onto his vehicle early Friday morning.

The crash happened just before 4 a.m. on state Route 343 in the 1800 block 343, between Yellow Springs and Clifton. Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the vehicle may have gone nine feet into the air before crashing into the pole.

The victim stayed inside his vehicle while crews worked to remove the live wires away. He was talking to crews while they worked and did not appear to be injured, but was taken to Soin Medical Center.

The initial cause of the crash appeared to be failure to control, as the driver did not navigate a turn effectively, troopers said.

Miami Township Fire Department, Yellow Springs Police and Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the crash.

The road will be shut down as Ohio State Highway Patrol investigates the scene and the pole is repaired, troopers said.

DP&L’s outage map shows that about 200 people do not have power near the area.
