Road resurfacing may cause traffic detours in Trotwood this year

The contractor will be the John R. Jurgensen, Co., which submitted a bid of $740,572, city records show. The work may include rerouting traffic on Post Town and Snake roads, according to Stephanie Kellum, Trotwood’s deputy city manager.

“Traffic will be maintained using flaggers. However, some roads may require detours for safety reasons,” Kellum said in an email.

If detours are needed on Post Town and Snake, signage will be in place for vehicle traffic, she said.

All streets were picked for work this year based on their conditions rated on “utilization and impact to the community,” Kellum said.

Those ratings were based on a 2018 report in which an independent engineering firm reviewed all city streets, she added.

The longest sections of resurfacing will occur on Post Town and Snake, according to city records. The breakdown of work includes:

•Post Town: 1.15 miles, from Union to Snyder, $227,510;

•Snake: .98 miles, from Seybold to Diamond Mill, $91,758;

•Stuckhardt: .45 miles, all, $150,177;

•Redonda: .44 miles, all, $125,471;

•Beardsley: .30 miles, all, $102,186;

•Live Oak: .28 miles, $116,144;

•162 Olive: .02 miles, $10,539.

Trotwood received two bids for the work, according to a memo from Shelby Ingle, project manager for Crawford, Murphy & Tilly, Inc.

Barrett Paving Materials, Inc. submitted a higher one than Jurgensen, Co., which gave a base bid of $625,476 and two alternate projects – work on Live Oak and Olive - totaling $115,096, city records show.

Jurgensen is “a reputable contractor with the ability to complete the project in a timely manner,” according to Ingle’s memo.

Work began last month with Americans With Disabilities Act improvements to ramps along Live Oak and Stuckhardt, Kellum said.

The resurfacing is expected to be completed by July if there are no delays due to COVID-19, she said.
