Roofer's torch ignites Kettering apartment building

Workers caused a fire at a Kettering apartment building on Wednesday night that displaced one family.

Roofing installers using a torch ignited wood at one of the buildings at the Beaver Ridge Run Apartments, on Beaver Ridge Drive, said David Roth, Kettering firefighter/paramedic/investigator.

An 87-year-old woman, visiting her daughter who lives in the building where the fire broke out, had to be rescued by firefighters, Roth said. They were able to get her out safely, he said.

There were no injuries, he said.

Crews were dispatched at about 6:30 p.m.

No money estimate of damage to the structure or contents was given.
