See Dayton’s magnificent ‘Pizzatree’ and two other creative holiday trees

Take the "Pizzatree" at Old Scratch Pizza, 812 S. Patterson Boulevard in Dayton, for instance.

Stephanie Soller, the restaurant's co-owner, said the eye-catching "tree" decorated in ribbon, bows and garland is made with 125 pizza boxes.

It is right up front near Old Scratch’s counter.

“We are not big into holiday decorations, but we wanted to get into the holiday spirit for our staff and customers. I was looking some fun ideas and perhaps something a little ‘cheesy.’ I found this idea on Pinterest and went from there,” Soller said. “I thought it would be kinda tacky, but it actually turned out quite ‘tasteful.’”

The "Christmas tree" that decorates the window of Strings Attached, 225 N Main St. in downtown Dayton, is fashioned out of styrofoam balls covered in yarn, then strung on yarn.

The concept was easier to come up with than you’d expect.

"I was sitting at my mother-in-law's dining room table in Washington, D.C. thinking about what I wanted to do," Kristen Maddox, the shop's owner, explained. "I wish I had a better story."

The shop is competing against about 30 others downtown business for a victory in the Downtown Dayton Partnership’s Whimsical Windows contest.

The Dublin Pub went with what it knows for its unique Christmas tree: empty bottles of Jameson whiskey.
