The crash was reported on East Franklin Street and Westpark Road, just west of Clyo Road around 11:50 a.m. after the motorcycle slammed into a pole.

The motorcycle operator, only identified as a man, was transported to an area hospital by a medical helicopter and suffered serious injuries, according to police.

A black Nissan car was seen by witnesses on Westpark Road before the crash and might have either been involved, as a non-contact unit, or witnessed the crash happen.

“We believe based on witnesses that there was another vehicle that pulled off of Westpark at the time of, or just before the motorcycle hit the pole,” John Davis, Centerville Police Community Relations Officer told News Center 7.

Other factors in the crash were under investigation but excessive speed was not believed to be a cause, Davis said. It was also unknown if the man was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

East Franklin Street is blocked in both directions and was expected to be shut down into the afternoon, according to police.

We’ll update this story as we learn more.
