UPDATE @ 5:03 a.m.:

State Troopers suspect that alcohol may have played a factor after a Honda Civic sideswiped a semi on I-75 near Route 73 early this morning, according to State Trooper Adam Pollit.

Pollit said that he was already on a traffic stop on the southbound side of the highway when he heard a crash behind him. Initially, he believed that the crash was between a semi and an ambulance, but it turned out that the ambulance had simply stopped to help.

The actual crash was between a semi truck and a 2005 Honda Civic, where the Civic attempted to cut in front of the semi but instead struck the semi.

The collision shoved the Civic off the road and caused the truck to turn sideways, although the driver was able to regain control and point the truck forward again.

Pollit said that there was minor, but disabling, damage to the semi, but the Civic would be a loss. He said that the driver of the Civic sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the Franklin Kettering Health Network Emergency Center on Route 73.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but Pollit said that the Civic driver was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol.

He was also not wearing a seatbelt, Pollit added.
