Police said they are thinking that a medical problem "likely, possibly" could be the reason a woman drove an SUV into the corner of a Taco Bell on Woodman Drive near Airway Road on Wednesday evening.

The woman, who police believe is in her 20s, was taken to a hospital suffering from what appear to be minor injuries, Riverside police Sgt. Colon said.

Colon said the woman drove over from the Airway Shopping Center across all four lanes of traffic, continued over a median and through a grassy area, then continued into the exit side of the drive-through lane and hit the corner of the building.

Police and fire crews were dispatched to the restaurant at 47 Woodman Drive at about 6:07 p.m. on a report of a car into a building.

Alcohol was not suspected in the incident, Colon said. No one else was injured as there were people inside the restaurant, which has been shut down until it can be inspected, Colon said.

Mark Tipton, who told WHIOTV.com he stopped in to get food for himself and his family, suspected that a medical problem might be at the root of what he saw. "It seems kind of crazy that someone would drive all the way across all four lanes into the building," he said. "I'm hoping nobody got hurt."

Colon said the woman is likely to be charged with failure to control a motor vehicle, noting, "it's fortunate no other vehicles were struck" in the incident that occurred during rush hour.
