Troopers step up patrols in school zones as classes resume

As more school district in the Miami Valley head back to school Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers are stepping up enforcement in school zones.

Troopers said that the top violation they see is speeding.

Sometimes, drivers speed pass school buses while they’re stopped because motorists don’t know the law.

“On a four-lane road, vehicles that are going the same direction as the bus are required to stop,” said Lt. Matt Schmenk. “The opposite traffic is not required to stop.”

“On a two-lane road, all cars in each direction are required to stop,” he added.

If you’re caught speeding in a school zone the price of your ticket often increases.
