This weather has had mixed effects on area landscaping companies, and News Center 7’s Adam Marshall spoke to David Baumgardner of Whispering Creek Landscaping on how the unusual weather affected his business.
On the one hand, Baumgarder said that the warm winter allowed his company to continue working on some projects much longer than usual.
“If it’s mild enough, not too wet, we can do some outdoor projects,” he said. “We just wrapped up a project here in the middle of January. I’m sure there has been many years you couldn’t have projects running this late.” He added, “Usually January is just too cold, but this year it’s been above freezing most days.”
On the other hand, the mild winter cost the company, which also clears parking lots and puts down salt for businesses.
“Some of the salt that we pre-paid for, we haven’t used. So, [we’re] expecting to have more winter, hoping for it.” Baumgardner said.
