Dayton's premier rock climbing center in a church is expanding its offerings to yoga.

Urban Krag Climbing Center, 125 Clay St., announced Friday that beginning Feb. 2, it will offer four yoga classes for all fitness levels Tuesday through Sunday mornings in its climbing gym in the Oregon District.

The classes range from beginner's yoga, which gives an introduction to the basics of breathing techniques, guided meditations and the foundation postures, to climber's yoga, which will incorporate Pilates techniques to help you take your climbing to the next level.

Whether you're a climber or not, each yoga class will help increase flexibility and muscle strength, as well as help you to cope better with stress and increase mindfullness. Urban Krag instructor Ashley Ward said the team had been looking to offer yoga for about a year now, and finalized their three instructors and schedule in the last two months.

"As a gym, we're always trying to offer more than just a weight room and climbing, and we had many climbers asking us to offer yoga already," she said. If you've never climbed at the Krag before, you'll have to complete a waiver before participating in the class, available on Urban Krag's website.

Even though you don't have to be a climber to take their yoga classes, Ward hopes that more people will take interest in learning to climb once they take the class, especially since the classes will take place right in the middle of the climbing gym.

"They may feel more confident in their fitness ability (after taking yoga), and once someone's in the gym, and they see the stained glass windows and our space, and watch people climbing around them, they may feel more comfortable," she said.

Prices range from $13 for a single/drop-in class, to $85 for an unlimited monthly pass. Prices range for reserved private, semi-private, and group classes. Yoga classes are not included in Urban Krag memberships, but Climbing Members will receive 15 percent off of yoga passes.
