HAMILTON — If you’re looking for an affordable way to get a used car, look no further than the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

An auction began at 5 p.m. Thursday for seven vehicles seized from drug dealers, including a 1999 Chevrolet Corvette with only 23,000 miles, said Sgt. Monte Mayer.

The auction is online at www.GovDeals.com but a link is also accessible from the sheriff’s Office website. The auction runs 30 days.

Funds raised from the auction go to support programs such as the aviation and K-9 units, DARE program, and future investigations conducted by the office. A portion of the funds also go to the Butler County Prosecutor’s Office and neighboring agencies assisting in investigations.

“The more money we get out of these cars the less taxpayers have to pay,” Mayer said.

In a 2010 auction, more than $114,000 was made from just three muscle cars — a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro and two Chevrolet Chevelles from 1966 and 1970, according to the sheriff’s office.

Mayer said the Butler County courts system awards the sheriff’s office the vehicles after drug cases are complete. Sgt. Todd Langmeyer, commander of BURN, the sheriff’s drug task force, said these seven vehicles auction were not used to haul drugs but were assets owned by incarcerated drug dealers.

Langmeyer said a Dodge Charger, with customized chrome, and Ram 1500 were owned by the same Fairfield man arrested for trafficking seven kilos of cocaine.

The Jeep Wrangler, Corvette and Harley Davidson were also owned by one narcotics dealer out of Fairfield.
