The West Carrollton Police Department has purchased a hand held scanner to help reunite lost dogs to their owners.

The scanner is able to display the microchip number of the dog after detecting if one has been implanted under the dog's skin.

The scanner doesn't show personal information such as the owner, the dog's name or address. This information can be obtained by providing the chip number to the Montgomery County's Animal Resource Center.
