Teens seen inside former Harrison Twp. elementary school before fire

Crews called to a report of people inside an elementary school Tuesday night discovered a fire inside a vacant Dayton Public Schools building.

There were about 15 people, possibly teens at 10:15 p.m. reported running around inside the former Valerie Elementary School, 4020 Bradwood Drive in Harrison Twp., according to the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center.

Deputies reported seeing heavy fire coming from the attic, and deputies were out looking for the teens.

At least one person was detained at the school, the sheriff’s office said.

The former Valerie Elementary School has been closed since 2018, and the building was earmarked for demolition by the school board in June 2019.
