Sanchez T. Banks, 20, address at large, was released on his own recognizance after making the plea to one count of aggravated robbery, two counts of kidnapping and one count of escape during his arraignment in Clark County Common Pleas Court.
Police says Banks entered the Hung Lung Restaurant, 1137 Sunset Ave., May 31. He grabbed the 11-month-old son of a female employee, placed a knife to the infant’s throat and demanded money.
Banks told the woman to give him money out of the cash register, which she did, then allegedly said “give me more (expletive) money, I know you have more,” according to the police report. He then located and took money out of a box under the counter, handed the baby back to the woman and fled on foot with approximately $470, police said.
After the investigation identified Banks as the suspect, police found an outstanding warrant gainst him for failure to appear on charges of attempted burglary, receiving stolen property and theft.
He was located and arrested June 2 at 410 Rice St. on those warrants. While being taken into the Clark County Jail in handcuffs, police say Banks escaped from custody.
He ran out the west driveway of the jail’s basement parking lot and across North Fountain Avenue toward Fisher Street and Columbia Avenue.
He was located hiding under a parked car in a gravel parking lot on Fisher Street, where he was again apprehended and taken to the Clark County Jail with assistance from a Clark County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant.
Sanchez faces a maximum 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine for the aggravated robbery charges; 8 years and $15,000 fine for the kidnapping charges; and 5 years and $10,000 fine on the escape charges.
