Man Sentenced In Shooting Death

A man who pleaded guilty to kidnapping, robbing and murdering a Dayton man gave a tearful apology to the victim's family.

Aaron Bass was sentenced Wednesday for the shooting death of 25-year-old Jason Knipp.

Knipp had been found in a garage off Ryburn Avenue in Dayton in 2004.

His body had been found just a few days after the July 4 holiday.

Residents in the area thought they were hearing fireworks but instead, it was gunfire.

The shooting happened just days after Knipp had called his girlfriend saying he'd been kidnapped.

Bass pleaded guilty in January to taking part in the killing.

He was sentenced to 23 years in prison.

But before the sentencing, Bass made a tearful apology to Knipp's family.

A second suspect in the case, James Pierce, was convicted at trial last month.

He was sentenced Tuesday to a total of 51 years to life in prison.
