San Diego-based NuVasive Inc. is considering consolidating its manufacturing operations. Ohio is competing with Texas and Tennessee for the proposed project. If Ohio were to lose the proposed project, existing jobs in the state could be in jeopardy, state officials said.
The Ohio TCA approved a 65 percent, seven-year job creation tax credit for this project.
NuVasive Inc. is a medical device company focused on developing minimally disruptive surgical products and procedures for the spine.
The company acquired NuVasive Manufacturing, formerly known as ANC LLC, in May 2013 for $4.5 million. The purchase was part of the company’s plans to bring manufacturing in-house, officials said.
NuVasive Manufacturing is located at 1 Herald Square in Fairborn.
State officials said the proposed project involves developing an anchor location for increased manufacturing capabilities. The company’s fixed asset investment would be towards acquiring and renovating an existing facility, on-site infrastructure improvements, leasehold improvements, and new machinery and equipment.
NuVasive expects to create 195 full-time equivalent employees generating $9.2 million in new annual payroll and retain $5.4 million in existing payroll by the end of 2019 at the project location.
In a letter dated August 18, the city of Fairborn expressed support for the proposed project.
