S’mores on a stick, dinner in a cone: Ohio Stadium’s new must-try game-day foods

Not so very long ago, the concession-stand menu for football fans at Ohio Stadium consisted of little more than hot dogs and popcorn. The addition of cheese-smothered nachos was a revelation.

The times, they are a-changing.

When fans pour into the Horseshoe on Saturday for the Buckeyes’ first home game of the 2017 season, they’ll have several tasty new options to choose from.

The most distinctive new option, according to an Ohio State University release, just might be "Sticks and Cones," which offers what OSU officials call "mobile meals."

“What you have is edible bread cones. We’ve got them stuffed with a pasta and meatball as well as an Italian grinder concept,” Molly Kurth, vice president for hospitality and strategy for food vendor Levy Restaurants said in a release. “So no mess and nothing to carry around that you’re trying to get rid of.”

Sticks and Cones also has a dessert offering: waffle cones filled with eggless cookie dough. The concession stand also is selling "s'mores on a stick."

“So we torch the marshmallows and cover them in chocolate and graham cracker crumbs to enjoy as a sweet treat at the game,” Kurth said.

The Sticks and Cones concession stands are located in section 18C as well as the south B Deck.

A new twist on chicken — in the form of a cold fried chicken box — also will be available.

“So who doesn’t love cold fried chicken, picnic style?” Kurth said. “You’ll have the option of a bone-in chicken with coleslaw or chicken tenders and your choice of dipping sauces.”

And a new concession stand called Buckeye Cantina in the stadium's A Deck will be serving up taco bowls stuffed with beef, chicken or vegetables and nachos topped with meat or vegetarian options, OSU officials said.

The beer selection will expand to include local breweries. Hilltop Lager from Four String Brewing Company, Columbus Brewing Company's best-selling IPA; Great Lakes Brewing Company's Turntable Pils; and Rhinegeist Bubbles Rose Ale will make their debut this year on the stadium's beer list.

And a favorite brew from last year returns. “Land-Grant Brewing Company did their Skull Session lager for the Michigan game. This year they are pulling it out for the whole football season,” Kurth said.

Ohio Stadium isn’t alone in stepping up its culinary game. The 2017 menu at Paul Brown Stadium, home of the Cincinnati Bengals, will include the Brunchin Pork Tenderloin Waffle, the Spicy Bavarian Burger, and the Sonoran Foot Long Dog, which is topped with — are you ready? — bacon crumbles, pinto beans, mustard, mayo, salsa verde, queso fresco, diced onions, tomatoes and jalapenos.
