An Arizona man is accused of breaking stained-glass windows at a historic cathedral in Tucson, authorities said.

Steven Henry Trejo, 57, was arrested Monday in connection to the window vandalism at St. Augustine Cathedral, KTVK reported. Trejo is also suspected of vandalizing a nearby apartment complex, KNXV reported.

According to officials with the Diocese of Tucson, a vandal broke the glass windows, which were made in 1897, the year the cathedral was built, KTVK reported.

According to a news release from the diocese, rocks were used to break the windows, the television station reported.

“Diocesan officials still are trying to get damage repair estimates,” John Shaheen, director of property and insurance for the Diocese of Tucson, said in the release.

The windows were protected on their exterior by Plexiglas, but the rocks still smashed holes into the historic glass, which measured about 8 to 12 inches in circumference.

Trejo was booked into the Pima County Jail, KNXV reported.
