According to police documents, a man called to report a 37-year-old woman was unresponsive at a Scottsdale residence, KNXV reported. The man, identified as Rundle, told police he was pouring water on her to "stimulate her adrenaline" to save her from the suspected overdose, the television station reported. Rundle admitted to giving the woman one-third of a gram of heroin, The Arizona Republic reported.
Police said Rundle told them he poured 10 saucepans full of hot tap water on the victim, KNXV reported. According to police, Rundle originally used cold water, but it did not make her "move and moan."
Police said the water temperature was 150 degrees, and Rundle admitted he knew it was "too hot," KNXV reported.
According to KNXV, an officer said in the police report, "He asked me what was worse, a blast of hot water or dying?"
The woman was taken to a hospital with severe, life-threatening burns over most of her body, the Republic reported. She is currently in serious condition, police said.
