Police in Omaha, Nebraska, are looking for the woman they said left a newborn boy on the doorstep of a family Monday.

Omaha police said a woman, who looked to be in her 20s, left what was first thought to be a package on the porch of a family, WOWT reported.

Vicente Cruz said he and his wife were watching television when they saw a woman leave something on their porch. Cruz assumed what was left behind were car parts he had ordered. But when he went outside, the package was moving, so he called 911, WOWT reported.

When paramedics arrived, they peeled back a sweater that was wrapping whatever was inside the bag and saw the baby, still covered in blood with his umbilical cord still attached.

The baby weighed 7 pounds, the Omaha World-Herald reported.

Cruz told the newspaper his wife, Reyna Cruz, spotted the woman, who was wearing a sweatshirt, with its hood pulled over her head, blocking her face from view.

Police are looking for the woman who left the baby because they are worried about her well-being.

Nebraska Safe Haven Law allows parents to relinquish their parental rights and hand a newborn to a hospital if the baby is under 30 days old, WOWT reported.
