Before Friday, police said Everett had not been seen since the night of the shooting, when his car was spotted more than 100 miles away in St. Lucie County. Investigators believe he may have killed himself shortly after.
"The goal was always to bring Mr. Everett into custody safely. We feel terrible for his family and they are shattered," Detective Teresa Sprague told WFTV.
Everett is accused of fatally shooting 37-year-old Eunice Vazquez at the Under Armour store at the Orlando International Premium Outlets after 8 p.m. Monday. Police said he had been fired from his job at the store that morning.
Prior to the shooting, police said he sent out a concerning email to a list of his co-workers, calling specific workers out by name, including Vazquez.
Rolon said Friday that they believe that when he entered the store Friday night he intended to target an additional employee, who happened to be on their dinner break at the time.
"The employee that we think he was looking for was out in the mall and on her dinner break and that was probably the only reason why she wasn't able to be targeted," Rolon told WFTV.
On Friday, police released new security video footage stills from the night of the shooting showing Everett holding a handgun in the store right before and right after the shooting.
Under Armour released the following statement to WFTV:
“Under Armour is grateful to the law enforcement officials and agencies whose diligence brought this investigation to a close. We continue to mourn the loss of our teammate, Eunice Maria Vasquez, and extend our heartfelt condolences to her family during this extremely difficult time. We continue to provide support to our teammates in the area.”
