California Amber Alert canceled after 2-year-old girl, father found

A 2-year-old girl believed to have been abducted Sunday night by her father has been found, according to the California Highway Patrol.

An Amber Alert issued for Bethanie Carraza, 2, was deactivated Monday afternoon after authorities located her and her father, Victor Magana, 24. The pair had last been seen Sunday night after Magana allegedly stabbed his girlfriend and fled with their daughter, police said.

Update 2:30 p.m. EST Dec. 16: Officials in California canceled an Amber Alert issued in the disappearance of Bethanie Carraza, 2, who vanished along with her father Sunday night.

San Jose police Sgt. Enrique Garcia told The Associated Press that Bethanie's father, 24-year-old Victor Magana, was arrested in San Luis Obispo County. No other information on the arrest was immediately available.

Original report: Authorities in California issued an Amber Alert early Monday after police said a man stabbed his girlfriend and fled with their 2-year-old daughter, according to multiple reports.

Bethanie Carraza was last seen Sunday night with her father, 24-year-old Victor Magana, in San Jose, according to the California Highway Patrol. Magana is suspected of stabbing his girlfriend at least once before disappearing with Bethanie around 10 p.m. Sunday, police said in a news release obtained by the Los Angeles Times.

 

Magana and Bethanie were last seen leaving the area in a light green 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe with California license plate No. 7XJX025.

Authorities warned Monday morning that Magana is considered armed and dangerous. He is 5 feet, 4 inches tall and 140 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes, according to officials. Bethanie is 3 feet tall and 30 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Authorities asked that anyone who sees the pair call 911.

San Jose police Officer Gina Tepoorten told The Mercury News that officers were called Sunday night after a woman was heard screaming on the 500 block of South 11th Street. The woman, identified as Bethanie's mother, had been stabbed at least once, according to the newspaper. She was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, The Mercury News reported.

Authorities continue to investigate.
