Backlash to the public service announcement led officials with the agency to apologize for the Twitter post.

So, this year, in an effort to raise awareness, the CDC officials posted the same photo and message, only this time on Facebook.

It led to many of the same responses.

CDC officials also still offer these suggestions for preventing tick bites:

“Conduct a full body check upon return from potentially tick-infested areas, including your own backyard. Use a hand-held or full-length mirror to view all parts of your body.”
