A GoFundMe page has raised almost $800,000 for the Army veteran who was shot seven times while trying to stop the gunman on the Umpqua Community College Campus.
Chris Mintz, 30, was a student at the college taking classes to become a personal trainer.
Mintz's was shot several times as he charged and tried to block a door to keep the gunman from coming in his classroom. Then, Mintz hit the floor, looked up at the gunman, and told him it was his son's birthday, at which point the gunman shot two more times.
Miraculously, Mintz survived.
However, both of his legs are broken and he will need rehabilitation and physical therapy to recover.
The GoFundMe page, set up by Mintz's cousin, Derek Bourgeois, has raised more than $774,000 in four days. The page also lists similar pages for the other shooting victims.
Mintz said he felt "overwhelmed by the support" in a message shared from his hospital bed Saturday.
