Coronavirus: 100 workers at 3 Louisiana crawfish farms test positive for COVID-19

Louisiana health officials have confirmed about 100 coronavirus cases at three crawfish farms in Acadiana, a region in the southern part of the state.

According to The Associated Press, the news came Monday as Gov. John Bel Edwards and state Health Department officials held a news conference. Assistant Health Secretary Alex Billioux said at least one group of cases involved workers who live "in dormitory-like settings," the AP reported.

Officials did not release the names of the farms where the outbreaks were discovered, according to the Advocate.

"We will continue to work with them to prevent further spread of this illness and to ensure workers understand where and when to be tested," Health Department spokeswoman Aly Neel told the Advocate.

As of Tuesday morning, Louisiana had reported at least 34,709 coronavirus cases and 2,563 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.
