With toilet paper shortages throughout the country because of the coronavirus, this was inevitable.

A California man is accused of punching his mother during a fight over the family's supply of toilet paper, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Adrian Yan, 26, of Saugus, was arrested on suspicion of battery, the newspaper reported. The woman declined medical attention at the scene.

According to Shirley Miller of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Department, deputies were called to a residence in Saugus about 3 a.m., KCBS reported.

"The victim and suspect reportedly had a verbal argument about toilet paper," Miller told The Signal of Santa Clarita. "The suspect felt the victim was hiding it."

The argument escalated and Yan allegedly punched the woman, Miller said.

According to KNBC, Miller said the woman later told deputies she hid toilet paper from Yan, adding that he uses too much.

Deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station have been responding to many reports of family violence, as people are cloistered together during the state’s shelter-in-place directive, Miller said.

"It was to be expected, it's happening everywhere," Miller told the Times.
