Classes are canceled in Maryland, but two teens are staying busy by helping senior citizens.

With the coronavirus pandemic a concern for the elderly, Dhruv Pai and Matt Casertano have started a grocery delivery service for seniors, WUSA reported.

Pai, 16, and Casertano, 15, who started “Teens Helping Seniors," are Montgomery Blair High School students. The idea came to the teens when they noticed how their grandparents were impacted by the spread of COVID-19.

"We thought maybe there are people in vulnerable populations out there, especially seniors, who don't have family to rely on during these times," Pai told WUSA. "I said, 'Maybe I can make their life a little bit easier and also reduce the risk.'"

The group, which now includes 60 other teens, has made more than 80 deliveries since starting two weeks ago, the television station reported. The service offers no-contact and medication deliveries to seniors and other high-risk residents in Montgomery County.

"We're growing really quickly," Casertano told WUSA. "We have a person who deals with the Potomac deliveries and a person for Bethesda. We're all around the county."

The teens are looking for more volunteers and can be contacted by email at TeensHelpingSeniors@gmail.com.
