After nearly 10 million Americans filed for unemployment in March, nearly a third of all renters didn’t pay their April rent, an apartment industry group says.

The National Multifamily Housing Council reported that 69% of households paid rent, down from 82% from the same time a year earlier.

About 81% of households paid their March rent.

The group tracks rent payments for about 13.4 million units across the country.

Many states and cities have placed moratoriums on evictions and late fees.

New York landlord waived April rent for his tenants.
